About us

We are Yvonne and Juan, parents of 4 children and 4 grandchildren. After having enjoyed working hard for more than 40 years, we needed more time for ourselves. That is why we now live at a different pace and we give ourselves more space.

Besides gardening and cooking, Yvonne also has a hobby painting. All her own creations are in our house and in the apartment. You can take a look via Art Quinta Boa Vista to see the paintings.

We first entered the area of our future home during the vacations of 2005. Undoubtedly, we directly fell in love with its culture, people as well as nature. After that, we went on a long quest looking for a piece of land to build our own house. And in 2008, we found our place amidst a beautiful area. A year later, we started the construction, and finally, in 2010 our own house was ready for habitation.

Unfortunately, in 2017, an atrocious fire in the area destroyed some of the major flora and fauna. Thankfully, Mother Nature managed to recover and slowly the area turned green again and the animals also came back.

We had an apartment and a swimming pool that was built in 2018 exclusively conceived to receive guests. They can then experience how nice it is to spend their time here.

Nature reserve:

Our house is located on a sandy path in the middle of nature. In the evening and at night, there are animals that live in the wild, such as boars and foxes. A while ago we recorded these animals in the middle of the night with a wildlife camera. The images are also attached here on the site.

When you sit on the terrace in the morning with a cup of coffee, you can also admire various birds that fly around in abundance. Think of the cuckoo, the robin, the flemish roth, the hoopoe, the seesaw, the great tit and many more species.

The air here is still pure and clean and from the mountain where the apartment is located, you will have a beautiful view over the meadow surroundings with the forests and the valleys.

Apartment:

The apartment where our guests stay is located on the ground floor of our house. This gives our guests complete privacy. It is fully equipped and suitable for up to 4 people. The apartment consists of two bedroom with a double beds, a kitchen and a bathroom. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, and sink. There is also a corridor that connects all rooms.

In the appartment yiu have acces ti the our wifi so you can connect to your phone or tablet.

All necessities such as bed linen, a duvet and pillows are available in the bedroom. There is also a fan in the bedroom that can provide some cooling.

The kitchen in the apartment is equipped with all necessary devices, such as a microwave, a refrigerator and an electric hob.

You can swim in the spacious swimming pool, which is entirely for private use during your stay. On a hot summer day, it is wonderful to take a cooling dip at a water temperature between 22 and 26 degrees. And then in the evening enjoy the sunset from the terrace of the apartment. That sounds like the perfect summer day.

On our land there are also two ruins that can give you an idea of how the people in the area used to live decades ago.

Location:

The old village of Aldeia das Dez is located on the edge of the Serra da Estrela, and is about 2 kilometers away from the apartment. From the apartment you can enjoy the view of the valley of the river Alva, but also of the mountain ranges of the Colcorinho, Serra do Acor and Calamuro. As you might imagine, the view is spectacular. hiking trails The area also offers several hiking routes for hikers. Our apartment is located on one of the different hiking trails in the area. The area also offers many cyclingroutes for cycling enthusiasts. In short, everyone is satisfied.

The university city of Coimbra with the oldest library in Europe is about 1 hour away, which is definitely worth visiting. The Atlantic coast is just over 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from the apartment.

Surroundings:

The Serra da Estrela Natural Park in which the apartment is located is an exceptional area, as it is the largest protected natural area in all Portugal.

In the area you will also find the highest place on the Portuguese mainland with a summit of 1993 meters, called the Torre. On winter, there is snow at this height and skiing is therefore possible (unfortunately no Austrian snow conditions, but still very nice).

Two important rivers originate in the nature reserve; the Mondigo and the Alva. As previously stated, a visit to the slate village of Piódão is a fun outing that you can enjoy all day long. On the way to this village, you will come across a waterfall called Fraga de Pena where you can take a look. There are many more nice places where you can spend the day in the vicinity of the accommodation.
